We are starting our Biomes unit. This is a fun research project, where you will learn all about the different biomes around the globe. Not only will you learn about them, but you will also devise ways to survive in each biome just in case you ever get lost.

We continue our work on evolution, working like Darwin to determine the "rules" of natural selection. What does fitness really mean? Why is it not survival of the sneakiest? We will progress to working with the fossil record to reveal what it can tell us about evolution

We continue to explore circuits. This week we will learn about circuits in series and in parallel. We will devise different switches and play a couple of games. By Friday you will be ready to create your very own electrical invention
6th Grade: Biomes

Minerals, fresh water, and biosphere resources are limited, and many are not renewable or replaceable over human lifetimes. This is project week. If you have enough coins you have already been placed in groups, and will begin working on your rollercoaster design. If you do not have enough coins, you will work on an alternate assignment to review all of the Forces and Motion concepts.

- For any pair of interacting objects, the force exerted by the first object on the second object is equal in strength to the force that the second object exerts on the first, but in the opposite direction (Newton’s third law). (MS-PS2-1)
- The motion of an object is determined by the sum of the forces acting on it; if the total force on the object is not zero, its motion will change. The greater the mass of the object, the greater the force needed to achieve the same change in motion. For any given object, a larger force causes a larger change in motion. (MS-PS2-2)
